Cranes and Saint Jackie of the Footprints

I considered the possibility of using a crane to left the sculpture onto the Island and arranged a meeting with Jason from NRC Crane Hire in Orsett. During our meeting my proposal started to unravel - how on earth would we get a crane through the gates of the reservoir, let alone support it. Jason was very kind, and didn’t make me feel too stupid. Another person that needs to be invited to the opening!

Jackie Pope runs Footprints Youth Club. I went to the club to meet Jackie and her brood and to see if they would be interested in being involved in the project. Jackie gave me the biggest hug when I arrived and we hit it off straight away. The Youth Club was somewhat depleted as there were fireworks on. But, there was a disco and (if I remember correctly) a ping-pong table. I gave my spiel to the group, had a chat and a cup of tea with Jackie and her colleagues about the possibility of the Youth Club getting involved with the design/re-building of the work.
